Does SPAA’s CPD Policy apply to ALL members?
YES. All SPAA members (General and Specialist) are required to earn 120 CPD points over a rolling three year period (triennium).
When does the first "rolling triennium" begin for a new member?
A new member’s first triennium begins on the first 1 April immediately following the date they joined SPAA.
How must the 120 CPD points be achieved within the "rolling triennium"?
The 120 points must be apportioned as shown in Table 1 in the SPAA CPD Policy. Members are required to achieve a minimum of 20 CPD points each year, as long as there are 120 CPD points earned within the three-year rolling triennium. At the end of a triennium the first year will drop off. The member then "rolls" forward and has one more year to accrue enough credits to equal 120 CPD points for the current year and the two previous years (please see the diagram below).

Can SPAA members keep an online record of their SPAA CPD points?
YES. SPAA provides members with access to an online CPD register to record their CPD electronically. Members can access their 'My CPD Register' via the SPAA website.
How is CPD compliance monitored?
A review of CPD compliance is conducted as part of the Quality Review Program discussed below.
What is SPAA’s Quality Review Program (QRP)?
Each year up to 10% of SPAA Members will be selected randomly for a quality review audit as part of SPAA’s Quality Review Program (QRP). In addition to a self-assessment of practice processes the quality review audit will review your CPD records against the mandatory requirements in the SPAA CPD Policy. If you are selected for a quality review audit you will be notified by email. At this time you will be given further information on what will be required.
Quality reviews may also be conducted at the discretion of the SPAA Professional Standards Committee (PSC) or as part of a disciplinary process.
The QRP comprises of 3 parts:
Part 1:
- All members selected for a quality review will have their CPD compliance tested.
Part 2:
All members selected for a quality review will also be required to undertake an online assessment of practice processes to ensure they continue to maintain SPAA's high standards of membership.
Online self assessment information:
Part 3:
- You may be required to complete a face-to-face interview.
- You will have an opportunity to review the information contained within the online self assessment report and consider the conclusions reached by the PSC.
- SPAA will contact you to make arrangements for a face-to-face interview by a PSC member.
- The interview results will be reviewed by the full PSC. If the interview is satisfactory, you will be sent a satisfactory report.
- If the interview is unsatisfactory the PSC will determine a course of action depending on your specific circumstances. You will be advised accordingly.
